Human is endowed with life supporting system, environment, for his survival and peaceful coexistence along other life forms on this planet. But depletion of natural resources and degradation of environment give emphasise on implementation of effective environmental protection measures.
Concept clarity of Environment
Environment is a life supporting and life bearing system of some major spheres. It is an interrelated system of lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and biosphere which lead to create a favourable condition to germinate a life.
But growing water and air pollution, increasing salinity and decreasing productivity of soil, shrinking forests, decreasing pray base and habitat loss, disappearing species of plants and animals, rampant urbanization and industrialization are causing great threat for environmental equilibrium.
Number of measures for Environmental protection
Planned steps or activities as means to avoid environmental degradation and lead to optimum utilisation of natural resources are called as environmental protection measures. They may be simple way by which we can save our resources from being depleted and degraded.
Here are some major environmental protection measures:-
1. Plantation of trees and avoiding to cut them
Plants are the only source of life breath for humans and other animals. Plants not only give us wonder gas Oxygen but it also prevent the erosion of soil.
Cutting trees for agricultural activities, industrial land, mining, and in the name of developmental projects could lead to imbalance in Oxygen cycle.
2. Over use of fertilizers and chemical pesticides may harm agriculture ecology.
Overuse if chemical fertilizer and pesticides may reduce the fertility of soil. Chemical pesticides are hazardous to the agricultural friendly pests and other insects.
Both things after rainfall contaminate underground water aquifers as well as nearby water bodies with chemicals.
Consume less or optimum utilisation of resources. We should use less as per our requirement or should make optimum utilisation of resources.
3. Controlling population
We know that more the people more will be demands for their survival. Controlling population will automatically decline the demands for land, food, houses, energy, vehicles.
4. Reducing pollution and using alternatives for fossil fuels.
Fossil fuels are the real cause of air pollution. Coal, petroleum products and gasolines after burning give out Green house gases like Carbon dioxide, Nitrogen oxide etc.
5. Proper planning before setting up Industries
Industries hamper land ecosystem at a great extent and migration of species disturbs the food chain. So planning for industrial set up is utmost important to avoid vulnerability of sensitive species.
6. Protecting ecological sensitive zones and natural regions
Species of Natural regions and ecological sensitive zones are very prone to climatic changes. Declaring and reserving such regions for wildlife alone will help to blossom and flourish diverse species.
7. Effective waste management
Treating industrial waste before leave them out and strict measures for did waste treatment will help to maintain purity of environment.
8. Reuse and recycling of materials
Reusing of things if possible will reduce the stress on resource generation. Recycling them for further use will reduce the requirements if newer one.
Ultimately, less consumption will result less depletion of natural resources.
9. Proper government policies and strict regulations
Effective Implementation of land use policies, urban development policies industrial policies, population policies, agricultural policies etc at grass root level using people’s participation will achieve these goals in reality.
Also there is need of strict regulations like plastic ban, business activities in ecological sensitive areas, genetic modifications in particular areas will provide extra cover of protection for life forms there.
All these small steps will insure us for sustainable existence of mankind on this only living planet. If not then nature will work accordingly cycle of destruction and construction.
