Scientific research methods

Research method is a means and ways to know the unknown much important world, or it is used to address confronting challenges. Clearly, there are two types of research methods used by researchers and scientific community — Empirical research method and conceptual research method.

Meaning and types of research methods

Traditionally, there are two types of research methods invented and used by our researchers across the world. These are conceptual research method and other empirical research.

Conceptual research method

Conceptual research based on prior knowledge and aimed to fill the knowledge gap between prior and newer knowledge.

In conceptual research, hypothetical prediction is made on the basis of available theories, rules and other literature.

Empirical research method

On the other hand, empirical research make predictions on the basis of repeated observations. No earlier published work is considered like conceptual research method to make final guess.

Data collected through repeated observations are used to support or reject hypothesis in question.

Empirical research aimed to generate new facts, relations, and solve problems in our day-to-day life.

Bottoms line,

We have seen that there is a considerable difference between both research methods. Conceptual research method emphasis on the formation of theoretical and conceptual framework based on the available theories, journals, and articles to bridge the knowledge gap.

Whereas, Empirical research method begins with observation to find out patterns and connection to construct hypothesis and test it in the light of evidences. The main focus of empirical or positivists method to find out new theories and laws by the means of observation.
